The challenge - Wedding in Montreal
Friday: Deep, burning, workout was squeezed in at lunchtime before the 6 hour drive. I took the time I would normally workout in the morning to prep my food for the day and pack up the car. Friday was a good PCP day; I even cooked up a plate of veggies at my mother-in-law's house upon arrival and sat up for a while before bed to digest.
Saturday: Up and at 'em! Gaby at hairdresser for 8am. After a late arrival the night before there was no scope for getting up early for a workout, in fact we were so tired there was no scope for breakfast before leaving the house. Dropped her at the salon and headed to the hotel. Impossible to get our room at that hour but they took the bags and after a slightly naughty breakfast (their scrambled egg was very creamy, and I did eat 1 sausage) and half an hour to digest in the lobby, I made use of the hotel gym. I got some funny looks and one chap asked me about my exercises. I started to explain what I was doing and he seemed very interested. After my workout I left him my Day 39 print out and told him to look online, maybe he will?
I had swiped a good amount of fruit at breakfast time and ate these through the rest of the day as I knew it would be a late night.
An Italian/Croatian wedding in Montreal, one of the eating capitals of the world. This is not a great environment for a PCPer to be in. A room full of hot and cold appetizers during the cocktail hour (which lasted 3 hours!) would be temptation enough, but compound this with an open bar, a 6 course meal and a late night (2am) buffet and only the truly pure of heart would be able to resist the power of the dark side. I ate sparingly but I had quite a few drinks.
Sunday: Long lie, finally! Two long days and no real sleep and I took advantage of the opportunity to rest on Sunday morning. Breakfast was on the run, coffee and a croissant was all that was on offer, but I still had two apples from the day before (it was quite the heist!). Family duties and it was 4pm before any other food was happening - an overly salted restaurant offering with a distinct lack of vegetables, but a 5 hour drive awaited and sometimes you just have to throw back low octane fuel. No workout today, less booze the night before and I would have had the energy to squeeze it into the morning. I chose to drink and therefore I chose to lie in bed.
Monday: Woke up exhausted. No food in the house. Get to work. Food intake will be fine today; stores near the office can provide the necessary. Tonight will be exercise and groceries and back on track.
1 day off plan is not so bad. 1 day out of 41. Line drawn, move on.
Great thinking Kevin. Read your blog and got tired as I went through it. Must have been an absolutely exhausting weekend! Ready to get back on track it sounds like... you breakfast sounded yummy!
ReplyDeletePS: Looking at a box of teacakes on the counter right now... not for me, they are for my husband Fraser. Supplemented by his caramel shortcake. He is just having a sugar fest here.
Now that is some schedule. Only 1 day off the wagon but you didn't get too far off.
ReplyDeleteGiven the wedding's temptations I think you showed remarkable restraint.
