Just back from a marvellous weekend in the beautiful Ontario countryside and I'm very tired. A quick note before bed however...
Saturday 4pm - Triathlon
Very nervous due to recent hamstring problems, but paced myself and saw the event through to the end. I listened to my friend Chris' goals before the event and adapted them slightly for myself.
1 - Finish the race without hurting hamstring any further.
2 - Finish in under 1hr 30mins.
3 - Beat someone.
Turns out I need not have worried about any of these.
I was very aware of the limitations of my leg from testing the day before and so did not push the pace at all.
Finished in 1hr 29mins.
Placed 13 out of 22 in my age category.
This was a great success, although I know with a fully-functioning right leg I could have shaved about 5 minutes off that time. Not much point in worrying about that though, just have to make 1hr 24mins the target for next time!
It was a brilliant event in scenic surroundings and my wife took many photos (despite some rain) that I will post in the next day or so.
I didn't do the exercises on Saturday (as I had the event in the afternoon) and this morning I only did my skipping. I did it on the beach looking out across the lake and it was a wonderfully peaceful experience. My legs did not have 5 creeps in them after Saturday and all day I have been feeling very tired, so I left the exercises alone. I will get back on that horse tmw after some proper rest.
Diet-wise I was great until after the event. We were 8 people and as a guest I did not want to cause any trouble. I needn't have worried as dinner on Saturday night was PCP compliant for the most part, so my indulgence comprised a few glasses of wine and 2 slices of tasty brie afterwards. I then sinned today by having another glass of wine and some apple pie with ice cream. Back at home now to the safety of my own fridge!
Pics and reflections to come tmw.
Tired, good night all.
Hats off to you!! Looking forward to the photos.
ReplyDeleteCONGRATULATIONS Kevin. Very well done on all counts.
