Day 9 - Freshly Laundered Bird

Last night, after dropping my wife off downtown to watch the Stanley Cup game with her chums (an event I forwent as I didn't want to come home at midnight), I made a late decision to conquer the laundry pile.  The clothes are now all clean and dry, and this evening I shall revel in the joys of folding and putting away, however this morning I was cursing the summer meadow-fresh garments.  I went to bed too late, because it was one of those 5:30am alarms that I had no interest in responding to.  I didn't even think about PCP, my barely conscious being silenced the interruption and I headed straight back to Slumberville. "First class ticket, please!" Fortunately I woke up an hour later.  Despite a moment's panic, I swiftly realised that the only person I had let down was in fact myself, and that I didn't really mind so long as I got up now and sorted out the food for the day, and made time to work out a bit later. I can be very forgiving.

Suitably organised, I headed off on the bicycle ten minutes earlier than normal and smiled all the way to work, hi-ho!  Engineered a lunch-break and headed to the gym (handy that I'm still a member as they have a couple of machines that I wanted to use, as I await the arrival of my resistance bands)...

Skips:  Borrowed a weighted rope from one of the trainers - a world of difference, this thing flew around and I even felt comfortable enough to start experimenting. By the end I was doing a high-kneed running-on-the-spot type skip, as well as my best impression of Alex Bilodeau; jumping from side to side with my knees together.  I have since tracked down a few stores where I may be able to purchase a joy-giving rope such as this and aim to hit them up on Saturday.
Lunges:  2 sets of the full 16 reps, 2 sets of a meagre 12 reps. Legs were screaming at me.
Rowing:  There is a weight machine I like for this. Didn't push as much as I could but wanted to complete the sets, so chose a weight I could manage.
Standing Ovation:  There is a pulley-type device that I bastardised for this one. The machine is designed for sitting, but I just lowered the seat right down and squatted to the right height with my back braced against the rest. Again, did not go crazy with the weight here, completed with good form, my legs were screaming again, from holding the squat position.
Dips, Shoulder Raises, Leg Raises:  A few grunts and groans, especially during the leg raises but all fully executed.

I had a good stretch after, showered, and walked back to the office. The walk was really tough to begin with, my hips were feeling weak and I had to walk slowly. After a while it all loosened up, so thinking that the walk was a good warm-down.  Still have to cycle home tonight, will take that slowly.

Today proved to me the importance of maintaining routine, and that includes sleep patterns.
As I type this my resistance bands have arrived, tomorrow morning just jumped up a notch!

  1. Big pile o' laundry at my place if you feel like doing some more. :)

Enjoy the resistance bands. They are my new best friends.

  2. Awesome skipping Kevin. I am very impressed by the laundry too! I hate to admit I am actually beginning to enjoy each day... does that mean Patrick is going to hit us with another blind sided change to our diet/exercise regime?

  3. The corporal punishment will no doubt increase, however in my experience the anticipation can be worse than the caning!
