Day 78 - Indulgence #3

I actually indulged in Montreal over the weekend, but finally dug the camera out, so here goes...

Montreal, for me, is the eating capital of the world; deliciously rich French food abounds (as well as a host of other brilliant global cuisine).
It has been 6 months since our wedding, so to celebrate we revisited the restaurant we first went to after I moved to Canada a few years ago.  The menu had not changed at all and we were very happy.
Salmon Tartare - we shared this, I could not have eaten this by myself, so rich.

Duck Confit - no problems polishing this off, the glass of red wine may have helped!
Note the extra sprinkle of salt the Chef deemed necessary on top. In a past life I probably wouldn't even have noticed it, but when I saw it I blinked several times and smiled and shook my head.  It was a delicious dish, and glad it came on a bed of arugula. To think back to the countless plates of food I've polished off without thinking of how they would effect my body.  Mindfulness is a great tool to own.

Chocolate Torte and Coffee Ice Cream - marvellous, but completely unnecessary.
Glad I had that over my wife's Creme Brulee though - the first time I've seen her leave Creme Brulee unfinished, it was incredibly delicious, but so heavy.

A great meal, I thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful of it. I'm way over the calorie count, but I'm not too worried about that.  The key for me was that whilst eating it, I fully understood how ingesting something like this even once a week is too much.  The meal left me feeling exhausted, heavy and I farted all the way home!  The training mode diet is one extreme, this is clearly another. The funny thing is my old self did not see this sort of meal as extreme, rather I saw it as normal, something I was entitled to, that I deserved, ALL THE TIME!
Craziness really.  Just look at how few vegetables are involved for starters!

This project's really woken me up.

  1. That meal looks and sounds amazing, and I certainly wouldn't worry about the calorie count if I were you, that last pic of your back is ridiculous!!!!!

    Happy six monthiversary!

  2. I hear you on the previous attitude of entitlement. I have been thinking a lot about stuff like that lately. Deserving rich food vs food as fuel and food rewards. I am sure there is a massive blog post about it percolating in me but it isn't ready just yet.
